Our car got broken into!
Our car got broken into on Monday!
That day, Terence decided to work from home (that meant he didn't go into the office), so we went out in the morning to buy Timmy a bicycle helmet.
When we got to the car, we found our doors unlocked. When Terence opened his door, he found the coin box left opened and I found Timmy's portable seat on his carseat (it was usually left on the floor below his carseat.)
Terence thought he had forgotten to lock the doors the day before as he had alot of things to carry up and gave people a chance to 'search' our car.
(FYI, our car is parked just next to the exit so most people will definitely pass our car, and our locks are visible cuz' it's an old car, unlike most locks that are found at the door handle in the newer cars.)
So we checked through our stuff and found nothing lost. Thank God they didn't take away Timmy's carseat, pram, portable seat & a baby sarong. All were his stuff. They added up to about $400. Also, thankfully, Terence just sent the car in for servicing the week before so he cleared the coin box so there weren't any valuables in the car.
So we drove off. On the way out, we found the metal gate left opened. When Terence tried to lock the car doors, from inside, he found that it didn't lock as easily as before. Until we reached our destination, as he was locking the door, he saw the lock had been pried open. There were dent marks on the keyhole.
Then we realised that our car was broken into and not Terence's absentmindedness.
We were quite shocked as our carpark is secured. So we were wondering if it was an insider job, i.e crime committed by the residents.
When we came back, Terence informed the management and they told us that we were not the only victims. 1 car was stolen, a couple of cars were damaged and 1 had $1000 worth of damages and the metal gate was damaged as well. So the thieves actually broke into the carpark.
We were so blessed that our car or things were not stolen and the damage was not much. To think our car is 15 years old, we never thought anyone would want to steal.
But after that I read a report that thieves usually target cars more then 10 years old as they didn't have alarms or engine immobiliser, making it easier to steal.
Now, everyday, we will wonder if we will find our car missing when we go to the car in the morning.
